The 3.29.12 SEDER event was a major success. Over 60 participants gathered in Workmen's Circle to listen to presentations by five regional visual and performance artists. Everyone got great ideas for how to add art and culture to their Passover tables. The lively presentation was organized by co-sponsor Haggadot.com! Founder, Eileen Levinson's talk included DIY Matzoh Baking and a great video entitled "Pass the Cup". Please be sure to check out this wonderful resource to spice up your seders this weekend.
The presentations and project ideas where incredible, showcasing some of LA’s most talented Jewish artists. The 3.29.12 SEDER event raised over a $1,000! The funds were awarded in a tight race to graphic illustrator Hillel Smith for his project titled “The Jewish Poster Project.” Hillel will use the funds to create a series of posters and stencils exploring historic Jewish themes in contemporary ways. He will lead a stencil workshop at our next SEDER event in June. Mark your calendars for June 10, 2012 and come make your own hip Jewish art piece with Hillel Smith.
Special thanks to Eileen Levinson, Founder of Haggadot.com; Kalil Cohen, Director and Tera Greene, Social Media Coordinator of the Southern California District Workmen's Circle / Arbeter Ring and the SEDER Planning Team for helping to make this SEDER such a success. A very warm thanks to all the participating artists Andrea Hodos, Annie Wharton Los Angeles & Israeli artist Rona Yefman, Cassio Tolpolar, Hillel Smith and Nina T. Becker (Jonas) & the Mobile Pinhole Project.

Everyone got a copy of the inaugural SEDER winner Will Deutsch's community zine titled "Notes from the Tribe." Participants also received a link to download the song "My Happy New Year" written by SEDER winner musician Nina Storey and recorded as a result of these funds! In addition, to her song at the next event she will share a vblog with all guest about how to make her secret Matzo Ball Soup and will give a report about her use of the SEDER winnings!

The funds were awarded in a tight race to graphic illustrator Emily Bowen Cohen for her project titled “A Member of Two Tribes.” Emily will use the funds to create a graphic memoir that she is writing and drawing about growing up Native American and Jewish in a small town in Oklahoma. She will make the memoir into a twenty-page comic book. She will then share this comic book with students in Jewish day schools and or religious schools in LA. Emily will read them her story and then lead a discussion about a time they felt like an outcast. Using this as a starting point, she will dialogue with students about diversity in the Jewish community.
